Programs

We put on or sponsor many programs throughout our community, and through our many different local clubs.

 

Here are just a few of the programs we're involved in, click on each link to find out more:

 

Junior Blind Olympics - The Optimist Blind Youth Association (OBYA) brings visually impaired athletes to participate in the OPTIMIST-JUNIOR BLIND OLYMPICS.

 

Camp Country Jamboree - A Camp for Cancer-Challenged Children and their siblings started by the Porterville Optimist Club.


Scholarship Contests - Optimist International sponsors three scholarship contests for students to earn money to pursue opportunities in higher education: the Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CCDHH), the Essay Contest and the Oratorical Contest. The contests are conducted at the Club level, then Zone and Regional (if necessary) and at the District level. District-level scholarships are funded by the Optimist International Foundations and awarded by Optimist International.

Internet Safety - This program is offered to adult groups of any size in order to educate them about the dangers on the internet that young people can unknowingly fall into.

 

Childhood Cancer Campaign - The CCC program model is built to accentuate four areas of service on which Members can focus

 

Optimist Youth Homes - Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services provides culturally sensitive, comprehensive treatment, specialized education, and support services to abused, neglected or at-risk children, youth, and their families, to promote stability within families and communities.
